My Thoughts

The Christmas Prayer by Wanda Brunstetter is a short story about Cynthia Cooper’s trip from Independence, Missouri to California in 1850.

Cynthia and her mother are traveling with the man she has agreed to marry along with two other wagons, Cole and his sister Virginia who are in search of wealth by hopefully striking gold, and Jack and his two small children who are planning on joining his brother and running a cattle ranch.

The story follows the wagon train as they travel across the west in hopes of getting to California by Christmas. Friendships are made, relationships are re-evaluated, and love is found in this exciting read by Wanda.

I was able to finish this story in just a short time, which was good because it was very captivating. The characters were well-written and it was easy to relate to Cynthia and the other travelers.

Instructions:
Without peeling, quarter as many tart apples as you would like. Lay apples close together, skin side down, in frying pan with salt pork fat or butter. Cover until well steamed then uncover and brown both sides, turning and watching closely to prevent burning.
